Biography

About the group...

Building from the momentum of their bourgeoning musical careers, composer and drummer Mike St-Jean and electronic artist and filmographer Matt Rosen bring their jazz-meets-electronic atmospheres and songs to bear in a new light, debuting a new sound unlike any other this country has to offer.

Keys, double bass & drums explore dynamic, tonal and energetic possibilities founded on digital samples & loops. This digital element is taken a step further with the addition of laptop instrumentation, promising to bring the potential of the modern jazz trio to a new level. ProJect is currently working towards the release of their long anticipated first record, to be available summer 2009.

While ProJect is a relatively young collaboration, its members have enjoyed successful careers releasing numerous albums, touring North America & Europe and having the support of and working with several Independent and Major labels. Their youthful enthusiasm, innovative ideas and already colourful history manifests in brilliant soundscapes and fascinating visuals.

About The City...

We are developing a live audio-visual program of about one hour in length, written and produced for World Expo 2010, themed, The Living City: Inclusive, Sustainable, Creative. [application pending; producing the record either way]

Directed by the theme and vision of the Canada Pavilion’s Cultural Program, ProJect’s performance will feature an arrangement of modern jazz musicians– a foundation of upright bass, innovative keyboards and drums, with melodies and atmosphere by guitar and saxophone –collaborating with laptop & electronic instrumentation to create a modern, experimental and improvisational experience based on thoroughly charted and rehearsed compositions. This sonic exploration of The City will play out beneath the projection of a film expressing just what it means to be inclusive, sustainable and creative in Canadian cities, from present day realities into the future of possibilities. The City will feature both archival and brand new footage filmed and produced by our experienced production team.
